The 3rd and final “Twin” prototype before the Pikes Peak Golf (built on the Golf Mk2) was also built with an Scirocco body, now with 1.8L 16 valves, 141bhp/103Kw with up to 210to 220bhp possible from each engine. Now that the factory 1,781cc Oettinger-engine was in production, this early 1983 prototype was able to use the new block and coupled this to Oettinger 16-valve heads. They also used a pair of three-speed automatic gearboxes fitteed to the engines.
The second Twin Scirocco 280/4 (280Bhp 4wd) had a 0-100 km/h time of 4.1secs and 200Km/h in 11.9 secs.
Volkswagen Development Department (instead of VW Motorsport) had now this project at it´s hands. Now you could see the typical Quattro styled body-kit at the car, with it´s wide wheelarches. This car had also special intake grills at the rear sides, for letting as much air as possible to reach the rear engine. The engine compartement was also different with the earlier Twin project. Now it was much more stronger and the engine sound was also less louder, beacuse of more effective sound moderation. Now the car was brought to a state of finish where it could have been put into limited production...
But somehowe, the VAG group thought it was to expensive and to technical to build, so they sadly put an end to the project.
The fuel system was a modified Bosch K-Jetronic and the compression ratio was 10.2:1. Fuel injection Electronic syncronisation of front and rear engines. Power balance adjustable by driver.
Two pair of three-speed automatic gearboxes was fitteed to the engines, built by Volkswagen Racing Production.
Drive: The car could be driven in Fwd, Rwd or 4wd configuration.
